Common Core too controversial? The proponents’ solution—rename it!

It’s an old pattern of behavior on the part of change agents  and societal transformers.  If a program or concept becomes too objectionable, they don’t examine  the criticisms to see if the concerns are valid. They don’t try to repair the program or cancel it.  They rename it and push even harder.

In the realm of education, we saw this with “outcome-based” education.  It is now called “performance-based” education or “standards-based” education because too many people began to understand it and object.

Lately the Common Core State Standards have come under fire. The claims made by pro-Common Core elected officials, non-governmental organization members, and philanthropists have been fact-checked and found to be untrue. Now those groups want to rename and rebrand the Common Core.  Read the article.
