About
Mission and Membership
It is the mission of Citizens United for Responsible Education (CURE) to promote academic excellence for children by researching educational issues, networking to disseminate relevant information, and advocating public policy.
CURE is a coalition of leaders of groups throughout Washington state. Many members have spent decades and much of their own resources in researching, documenting, and reading extensively in order to become informed on education issues across the nation. CURE incorporated in 1996, and continues to work to educate fellow community members on education issues and to work in local school districts and communities throughout the state.
We are glad that recently many new parent and citizen groups have sprung up in almost every state, with similar goals of becoming informed and then informing others of education problems which urgently need repair. Our group works independently of any other group, but we are happy to share information, ideas, and encouragement with the other groups, and we may cooperate on certain projects or issues.

How Does CURE Evaluate Issues?
CURE uses the following guidelines for screening and evaluating issues (legislation, initiatives, programs, proposals, grants, etc.). A positive response to all questions is required to elicit our support.
- Are parental rights protected?
- Is it a fiscally responsible use of taxpayer funds, and is there direct accountability to the taxpayers?
- Has the program or teaching technique been validated by true scientific research to show improvement in academics?
- Is true local control promoted?
- Is the program or bill consistent with both the US and Washington State Constitutions?
